The exam is written against one book. Here is what it costs, what you can get for nothing, and which chapters cover the domains that decide the paper.
The short answer
The CRCST exam is written against the Sterile Processing Technical Manual, 9th edition (2023), published by HSPA. The textbook alone costs $80 for members and $90 for non members, and the boxed set with the workbook is $135. The exam content outline that the whole paper is built from is free. Start with what costs nothing
Almost every page ranking for this question is selling you a book, so here is the part they skip: the blueprint of the exam is a free PDF, and two of the three sources this site's own question bank is built from are free government documents.

The edition trap
The 8th edition stopped being a current reference for the exam on July 1, 2024. Used copies of the 8th edition are cheap for exactly that reason, and so are most of the files circulating as free downloads. A bargain that teaches you the previous blueprint is not a bargain.
Check the edition before you buy anything second hand, including on Amazon, where old and current editions sit next to each other in the same search.
Which chapters cover which domain
This is the part that is genuinely hard to find, and the reason is structural: the manual is ordered to teach, and the exam is weighted to test. They are not the same order. If you own the book and want to spend your time where the paper does, this is the mapping.

About the free PDF you are probably looking for
The manual is a copyrighted work that HSPA sells. Copies posted for free download are not authorised. We are not going to lecture you about it, and we are not going to help you find one either. The practical argument is the stronger one anyway: Most of what circulates is the 8th edition, which stopped being a current reference on July 1, 2024. Studying it means studying against the previous blueprint.
If the price is the obstacle, the honest alternatives are a used copy of the currentedition, an interlibrary loan, or the copy most sterile processing departments already keep in the supervisor office.
