CRCST practice test
Original questions written against the exam content outline that HSPA publishes, and a straight answer about what the free banks do and do not give you.
The short answer
A CRCST practice test is a set of questions built from the exam content outline HSPA publishes, not from the exam itself. Free banks exist and are worth using. What separates a useful one is whether it is timed at full length and scored domain by domain, because that is what tells you where your points went.
The first 25 are live
Twenty five questions, no account and no card, scored by domain the moment you finish. Every answer shows the sentence from the public standard it comes from, so you can check the answer instead of trusting it.
They cover four of the 7 domains, including the three worth 21% each. The report names the ones they do not cover rather than quietly leaving them out.
What the free banks give you, and what they do not
There is a decent free option in this niche, and a paid one that does most of what this does at about the same price. Pretending otherwise would be easy to check, so here is the honest version.
| Feature | Free bank | Paid competitor | This ($39) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Costs nothing | Yes | No | No |
| Works without an account | Yes | No | Yes |
| Written against HSPA's published outline | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| A full length timed sitting | Not that we could see | Yes | Not yet |
| A score broken out by domain | Accuracy by topic | Yes | Yes |
| Names which outline revision it tracks | No | No | Yes |
| A dated log of every change to the bank | No | No | Yes |
If you were looking for an IAHCSMM practice test
You are in the right place. IAHCSMM is now HSPA: the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management renamed itself the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association, and the CRCST credential carried over unchanged. A study guide that says IAHCSMM on the cover is preparing you for this exam.
The one thing worth checking is the date on it. The current blueprint is the CRCST Exam Content Outline, revised November 2023, so material written before then may be organised around an older set of domains even though the credential is the same. Everything on this site is written against the current one, and the methodology page says when it was last checked.
Why the domain split is the part that matters
A pass or fail letter gives you one number. It does not tell you which domain cost you the points and which ones were fine. That is the difference between studying again and studying the right thing, and it is the only reason to pay for something you can partly get for free.
Common questions
Is this practice test free?
The first 25 questions are free, with no account and no card, and they are live now. The full 150 question timed sitting is the paid tier and is not open yet.
Are these actual CRCST exam questions?
No. Every question is written from scratch against the exam content outline that HSPA publishes. Sites advertising real exam questions are selling leaked material, which puts your certification at risk.
Is the IAHCSMM practice test the same as the CRCST one?
Yes. IAHCSMM renamed itself HSPA in 2021, and the CRCST credential did not change. Material labelled IAHCSMM practice test is preparing you for the same exam, though anything written before the November 2023 outline revision may be aligned to an older blueprint.
How many practice questions should I do before sitting it?
Volume is the wrong measure. One full length timed sitting scored by domain tells you more than several hundred loose questions, because it shows you which of the seven domains is costing you the exam and how your accuracy holds up over three hours.
