What this page does not cover yet
One point on a whole domain, and you should know why. Until August 2026 this page carried the Spaulding classification, which we had filed here. Reading the published outline in full showed that Spaulding is examined under Cleaning, Decontamination and Disinfection, so we moved it there rather than leave it in the wrong place. What the outline actually puts in this domain is equipment tracking systems and the processes for rental and loaned equipment, care and handling of patient care equipment including preventative maintenance tags and inspection for frayed cords and damage, what to do with equipment that is out of compliance, charging and storage, and transport guidelines to the OR, the emergency department and labor and delivery. We have not published questions on those yet. It is the smallest domain on the exam, but the questions in the table above are still questions you can lose.
Where noncritical items actually get processed
Most noncritical reusable items may be decontaminated where they are used and do not need to travel to central processing. This is the distribution half of the domain and it is a workflow decision rather than a shortcut: routing every bed rail and blood pressure cuff through the department would swamp it without reducing risk.
